‘Tipping Point’

I promised you a new subject, and I think I delivered!

As you know, I paint a lot of shiny things. Glass has long been a favourite of mine, but of course, there are other subjects which can also shine, not least the oozy, gooey jam bursting from this doughnut! Needless to say, these were certainly not value-range doughnuts; these had a very generous filling!

I had thought that the jam would be my favourite part to paint, but surprisingly, it was actually the little sugar crystals that had escaped the doughnut and scattered on the surface below. I had to stop myself from overdoing it because I enjoyed painting them so much!

It’s a funny thing though, just like the fact I paint a lot of wine bottles and yet I don’t like wine, I painted this stack of doughnuts, and yet I don’t enjoy eating them! They are way too sweet for me. Give me an anchovy over a doughnut, any day!

So… What’s next?

Well, frankly, I needed a new challenge and this painting only confirmed to me, that I want to visit more subjects like this. So, yes… I’m thinking something along a similar thread.

Watch this space!
